Get the Look: Selena Gomez's Slick-Back Bun

Selena Gomez showed up to "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to promote season 5 of her hit Hulu show "Only Murders in the Building" with her hair in the sleek slick-back bun that’s dominating the clean-girl aesthetic right now.

Gomez appeared on Fallon with co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin in a custom black strapless Danielle Frankel column gown with a slim neck wrap, accessorized with diamonds and topped off with the sleek bun for a high-impact yet minimalist vibe.

Her hairstylist, Renato Campora, gave her a version of the trending style with delicately defined baby hairs and no part.

Her "toasted pumpkin mani" came courtesy of celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik using PLA Nails' "Trick O Treat Yo'Self." Celebrity makeup artist Hung Vanngo created her dramatic evening makeup look.

Below, Campora lays out how he created Gomez's "60s-inspired" bun using Alterna caviar-infused hair-care products:

Step by Step: Selena's Slick-Back Bun

  1. On clean towel-dried hair, I sectioned out large 3-inch sections and used both the Universal Heat Styling Spray and Rapid Repair Spray from mid-sections to ends.
  2. Using a round brush, I dried the hair using upward motions so the roots could be directed upward for a beautiful, clean nape for the chignon.
  3. Once the section was dry, I sprayed Perfect Texture Spray on the roots for grip. This is essential for a tight and secure bun. These steps are repeated for the rest of the back of the head, and then I clipped the front and sides away for now.
  1. Now that the hair in the back is prepped, I brushed all the hair upwards and secured it with an elastic in a high pony.
  2. Next, I blow-dried the front and sides with the same Universal Heat Styling Spray and Rapid Repair Spray from mid-sections to ends. This time, the roots are directed backwards. After, I spray a bit more Perfect Texture Spray on the roots.
  3. I added the Replenishing Moisture CC Cream to the top layer for shine and married the front section with the back section, creating a snatched pony.
  1. Next, I curled the tail of the pony with a large barrel iron. I applied Perfect Texture Spray for more body, then Replenishing Moisture CC Cream for extra shine and hold.
  2. Then, I added a chignon net and made a perfect oval-shaped chignon and sprayed Working Hairspray all over to seal everything in. Voila!
