In response to triple-digit growth fueled by online and media buzz, ( plated ) Skin Science has opened a new 14,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Minnesota to produce the brand's exosome-fueled regenerative technology.
“As demand for (plated) surges, this new facility allows us to keep pace while upholding the scientific integrity and clinical-grade standards that set us apart,” says Alisa Lask, CEO of the brand's med-tech parent company, RION Aesthetics.
The new facility is located in Rochester, MN, where RION is located. It will manufacture Renewosome, the brand's shelf-stable proprietary ingredient derived from human platelets — the cell fragments in blood that form clots and halt bleeding.
The state-of-the-art facility will house the brand's end-to-end manufacturing under one roof, so it can step up production capacity, supply chain control, and manufacturing scale.
It was the second major move by ( plated ) in response to rapid growth. In November 2024, RION expanded its corporate leadership team, adding four executive appointments from major beauty brands to lead marketing, business development, and sales divisions.
( plated ), which launched in 2022, quickly gained traction among beauty and wellness aficionados due to its serums loaded with platelet-derived exosomes: microscopic messengers that help cells communicate when it's time to renew or repair.
Its Intense Serum was named one of Time Magazine's Best Inventions of 2024, and featured heavily in beauty and wellness publications including Elle, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Glamour, Allure, and Marie Claire.
That same year, ( plated ) released its first foray into hair and scalp care: a serum that targets hair loss.
The brand was founded by regenerative science specialists from the Mayo Clinic's Van Cleve Cardiac Regenerative Medicine Program, where they discovered the key role that exosomes play in healing.
