Sam Villa has spent a long career in service to others: teaching and motivating, creating community, and redefining what it means to be a stylist, educator, and leader. In September, the spotlight will be on him as he accepts a Lifetime Achievement Award at the American Beauty Vision Awards (ABVA).
Known for his approachable teaching style and commitment to bettering the beauty industry, Villa has taught thousands of stylists how to level up their skills and confidence, both behind the chair and in their business game.
“I see this award as a celebration of purpose, service, and the journey of helping others,” Villa says. “I’m beyond grateful for everyone who’s been part of this ride. My mission isn’t done — I’ll keep showing up to inspire, educate, and lead with love and integrity.”
Villa is the co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of the eponymous Sam Villa brand, as well as a Global Artistic Ambassador for Redken.
"Sam inspires community," says ABVA founder and producer Vilma Subel. "He has a special energy that the industry just can’t lose and that’s why we’re honoring him,” she says, “to cultivate and celebrate that energy.”
Villa will add the honor to other lofty industry accolades including Stylist Choice Awards, International Hairdressing Awards, and North American Hairstyling Awards, which named him its Educator of the Year in 2021 and Lifetime Achievement Award winner in 2017.
His passion for education and innovation shows up not just in classrooms and on stages, but also in Villa's ergonomic line of tools. They are designed to help salon professionals perform their best without punishing their bodies.
This year marks ABVA’s national debut after previously running as the Midwest Beauty Awards. The event takes place in Kansas City, MO and features a live runway show, hands-on education, and a vibe that’s all about support over competition.
Stylists can enter through July 1, 2025. Villa will be teaching a live look-and-learn class there on Monday, Sept. 15.
