Pureology and Aveda products were the top sellers for professional hair care in U.S. and Canadian salons this past year, according to global market research leader Kline + Co.
Pureology’s Hydrate Shampoo emerged as the No. 1 best-selling hair product overall. Both brands are vegan and cruelty free and place a high priority on botanical ingredients.
Kline releases a salon retail overview each year based on transactions by 3,000+ salons using Kline PRO, its point-of-sales database, which tracks both salon services and retail product sales.
The database includes SKUs for more than 1000 beauty brands.
Other Pureology products were top sellers in the categories of Color Care and Treatments. Aveda products were top sellers in the Clarifying, Sun Care, and New Product Line categories.
Pureology’s popularity last year spread beyond its core identity — color care — leading with items in the categories of Shampoo, Conditioner, and Treatments.
“Pureology also maintained strong distribution levels in 2024, keeping prices flat while competitor prices rose,” the report says.
Other trends in hair-care salon sales include:
- Curl care products show resilient growth, even through dips in overall salon retail revenue. The top two new product lines for the past year fell under this category — Aveda’s Be Curly Advanced and Redken’s Acidic Bonding Curls.
- Paul Mitchell continues to dominate the scalp care category for the fourth year in a row with its Tea Tree line.
- Olaplex led sales in repair/condition and shine categories, though “Kérastase is rapidly moving in with its new Première line,” the report says.
